He is a traditional portrait painter, one of the best. He knows that it is a dying art, one that is due ot have some kind of resurgence any time soon. He is likely to be commissioned to paint someone very important very soon — there have been rumours of it circulating through the world in which he moves. He has people putting out feelers, expressing his interest in becoming part of the establishment. Starving artists are losers and he is not interested in being one of them — he wants to be rich and he is willing to paint rich people and sacrifice the integrity of his art to get there. Everyone is given one free ticket and art is his.
